The 28th Indiana Square & Round Dance Convention, at the French Lick Resort, kicked off Friday evening, November 3, 2017 and lasted until noon Sunday, November 5, 2017. The Miami Valley Dance Council accounted for about 4 squares of registered dancers. Gem City, Kitty Hawks, Clinton County Country Squares and Swingin 8’s club members squared up. It was nice to see a few Frontier Squares dancers from Milford, OH there also. It was nice to see a few dancers who I met while dancing in Branson, Missouri, in attendance.
Wes Dyer and Mark Patterson called the Friday night dance. Wes was presented a very nice plaque for his years of being the man with the mic. Wes & Mark brought along three CDs for sale. Kristy Williams made a special appearance on two of the CDs. Wes had his dangles for sale too and I purchased three autographed Wes Dyer dangles!!
Saturday, rounds and squares kicked off early with a host (approx 20) callers & cuers (approx 8) too many to name. At 1pm, a Mainstream Competition was held with Travis Cook and Tom Davis calling. The MVDC entered a square. We didn’t win, but we had a lot of fun. I think we were the fourth square eliminated out of seven. Cast of three quarters with sweep a quarter more was our third strike and sent us off the dance floor.
Overall, our neighbors across the western state line hosted an annual event that is well worth the drive on the back roads. The scenery was colorful. The resort is incredible. My description will not do it justice, so you’ll just have to register for next years Indiana Square and Round Dance Convention!
